In a remarkable display of sustained success, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial venture, Animal, continues to dominate the box office, even as it marked its 11th day with a temporary dip in collections. Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that despite this, the film’s lowest single-day earnings surpassed the opening figures of numerous Bollywood releases in recent years.
As the curtains fell on its second Monday, Animal raked in 13 crores, making a 65.28% drop from the previous day’s whopping 36 crores. The total domestic haul? Brace yourselves – a mind-blowing 443.27 crores! Hindi version was the MVP with INR 400.37 crores, and the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions threw in INR 38.8 crores, 3.43 crores, 0.56 crores, and 0.11 crores, respectively.
Despite its formidable runtime and a polarizing reception, Animal has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, positioning itself as a formidable contender in the race to become the all-time top-grossing Hindi cinema. Shah Rukh Khan’s last superhit, Jawan, stands as a benchmark in this regard, having recorded a collection of INR 16.25 crores on its second Monday.
Quoting industry insiders, the film’s global appeal is evident as Animal amassed a colossal collection of INR 717.46 crore within just 10 days of its theatrical release. The industry is abuzz with speculation about whether Animal can surpass the record set by Jawan and etch its name in the annals of Bollywood history.
Animal goes past KGF: Chapter 2
In a noteworthy cinematic feat, the Hindi version of Animal has now surpassed the mighty KGF: Chapter 2 on the all-time Bollywood box office list. The Yash-starrer concluded its theatrical run with a commendable INR 434.70 crore, but Animal’s Hindi iteration has overtaken it, heralding a new milestone in its formidable box office journey.
The coveted all-time list is currently led by Jawan with a staggering INR 643.87 crore, followed by Pathaan (INR 543.05 crores), Gadar 2 (INR 525.45 crores), and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion‘s Hindi version (INR 510.99 crores). Animal now stands as the fifth-highest grossing Hindi movie, and with another week left before the releases of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar on December 21, it has ample time to climb even higher on the prestigious chart.
The heart of the film revolves around Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Ranvijay, who embarks on a mission to avenge an assassination attempt on his steel-magnate father, portrayed by the veteran Anil Kapoor. The ensemble cast, featuring the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Tripti Dimri, has received accolades for delivering top-notch performances.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, and controversy
Animal has managed to spark diverse conversations within the audience and critics alike. While some praise the film for its gripping narrative and stellar acting, others critique its portrayal of toxic masculinity and violence. The dichotomy of opinions surrounding the film adds a layer of complexity to its reception, making it a subject of intense discussion in the cinematic landscape.
