In a thrilling encounter at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday, India dominated South Africa as Arshdeep Singh showcased a spectacular bowling performance, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul in the first One Day International (ODI) against South Africa. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home team found themselves in deep trouble as Arshdeep Singh rattled their top order, taking four wickets in his fiery opening spell.
The left-arm seamer set the tone by dismissing Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen for ducks in the very first over. The dangerous Tony de Zorzi, who was looking to stabilize the innings, fell victim to Arshdeep Singh’s precision, departing after scoring 28 crucial runs. Avesh Khan, despite an initial setback with a dropped catch, made a strong comeback, scalping the Proteas captain Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder in consecutive deliveries.
Andile Phehlukwayo and Tony de Zorzi emerged as the top scorers for the hosts, contributing 33 and 28 runs, respectively. The Proteas’ innings folded at a mere 116 runs, a total that India will look to chase down comfortably.
