In a notable recognition of outstanding contributions to various fields, the Indian government has unveiled the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards for the year. Former Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu, is set to receive the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian honour, while veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest accolade.

Other luminaries to be conferred with the Padma Vibhushan include actors Vyjayantimala Bali and Konidela Chiranjeevi, as well as social worker Bindeshwar Pathak (Posthumous) and Padma Subrahmanyam. Renowned art collector Kiran Nadar and Indian squash star Joshna Chinappa are among those to be honoured with the Padma Shri.

A total of five individuals will receive the Padma Vibhushan, 17 the Padma Bhushan, and 110 the Padma Shri, reflecting the diversity of achievements across various fields. The government has also posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, to the late former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur.

30 Women among Padma Awards

The list of awardees is notably diverse, with thirty women among the recipients. Additionally, the roster includes eight individuals from the category of foreigners, NRI, PIO OCI, and nine posthumous awardees, underscoring the breadth of impact acknowledged by the Padma Awards.

These awards, presented on Republic Day every year, span a range of disciplines and fields, encompassing art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.
