When Kartik Aaryan first heard the story of “Chandu Champion,” he was in disbelief. “The first time I heard the story, I asked, ‘Is it real? Did it really happen?’ or ‘Is this fictional?’ The story had so many twists and turns, it was hard to believe it was based on real life,” Aaryan shared with reporters. The film chronicles Petkar’s life, showcasing his various roles: an Indian Army soldier, a wrestler, a boxer, a 1965 war veteran, and a swimmer. Aaryan admitted he was skeptical for about a month after hearing the narration, wondering if he could truly do justice to such an awe-inspiring character.

Aaryan, now 33, considers “Chandu Champion” his proudest project to date, largely due to the rigorous physical training it required. “I was going to the gym daily, not eating much, not working on any other films. For one and a half years, I became a machine, just following orders,” he recalled. Director Kabir Khan praised Kartik Aaryan’s dedication, noting that he built his physique naturally, without any artificial substances, despite the grueling demands. Aaryan even avoided sugar for the entire duration.

Kabir Khan, known for his previous sports drama “83,” was adamant that Aaryan was the ideal choice for the role of Chandu. “It’s not you who chooses the story, but the story that chooses you,” Khan explained. Khan shared that while working on the 2023 romance drama “Satyaprem Ki Katha,” he kept a close eye on Kartik Aaryan’s diet and training, ensuring that the actor remained focused on his transformation.
Khan’s faith in Aaryan was unwavering. “He has been a great student; we are proud of him,” the director added. The story of Murlikant Petkar, with its motivational and human elements, resonated deeply with Khan, and he was convinced that Aaryan was the only one who could bring it to life.
