Pune: In a shocking turn of events following the Porsche Crash, two doctors from Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital have been arrested for tampering with evidence in a high-profile Porsche Crash case involving a minor who crashed his Porsche, resulting in the death of two IT professionals. The Bribery Scandal: A Closer Look in Porsche Crash case
The doctors in question, Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the hospital’s Forensic Medicine department, and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer, were allegedly paid Rs 3 lakh to alter the blood samples of the teen driver. The payment came from a hospital staffer named Atul Ghatkamble. All three have been taken into police custody until May 30.
The Unveiling of the Crime
The minor was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for medical tests following the fatal accident on May 19. Suspicions arose when the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report indicated no alcohol in the blood sample provided. Further investigation revealed that the original blood sample, which likely showed alcohol content, had been replaced with that of another person who had not consumed alcohol. The original sample was later found discarded in a dustbin.
Arrest and Recovery of Funds
Upon arrest, the Pune Crime Branch recovered Rs 2.5 lakh from Dr. Halnor and Rs 50,000 from Ghatkamble. The public prosecutor informed the court that the accused had abused their positions for financial gain and tampered with critical evidence to protect the juvenile driver.
Government Response and Ongoing Investigation
In response to the scandal, the Maharashtra government has set up a three-member panel to investigate the matter further. Medical Education Commissioner Rajiv Nivatkar announced the formation of the panel and directed Dr. Vinayak Kale, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, to fully cooperate with the investigation. The panel is expected to visit the hospital and gather more information about the case on Tuesday.
